Esau was 2 years old when his mother passed away. His father was a farmer and raised Esau and his 4 siblings by himself. There was no school in the remote Rivercess community and no money to send him away to school elsewhere. When he traveled to Buchanan fleeing from the rebels in Rivercess during the war, the people living in Buchanan mistook him as a rebel, beat him and threw him in jail. After his release he was relatively safe in Buchanan but often went hungry because not being from the area people would not sell him food. Esau walked back to Rivercess once the war ended and provided for his family through farming. When it became necessary to increase the security team once the clinic officially opened, he was recommended by both security guards, Isaac and James, as the best man for the job.
