Abiola was born and spent her early childhood in Sierra Leone. In 1987 she moved to Monrovia, Liberia to be closer to her mother. Little did she know that a few years later the war would erupt in Liberia and food would be extremely difficult to come by in the city. Hunger would end up claiming the life of three of her children before the end of the war. She was able to make her way to Rivercess and start training at the local hospital as a vaccinator but the money was low and, some months, did not come at all. Since starting work at the Po River Clinic she has enjoyed more financial security of a higher wage that is always paid on time. This change is allowing her to put her grandchildren in a quality school and ensure a better future for her family.
