So, it’s been a year. The clinic is in full swing and keeping us very busy. On the day of our 1-year-in-Liberia anniversary two big-bellies showed up to deliver their babies! Fortunately one was not in labor…we’re thinking she had gas pains. The second mother, however, was definitely contracting. Her nurse (aka Jen), though calm, cool, and collected on the surface, was panicking underneath. Our Midwife and TTM (Trained Traditional Midwife) were out of town! Luckily, another woman on the mission… a mother of 12… was willing to assist with the delivery.
The delivery room is not yet ready, so we put her in the exam room. Then we waited. After 7 hours and a lot of screaming, mostly by the other women in the room, our 18 year old patient delivered her first baby- a healthy baby boy! Little did she know this was Jen’s first too!!
The first clinic baby was born on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 10:32pm. Since then, the excitement hasn’t stopped! We’ve seen Leprosy, Tuberculosis, severe malnutrition, amputated toes, and, of course, lots and lots of Malaria. The overall goal of using the clinic to spread the Love of Jesus Christ was accomplished in 2013 and we pray that God will show us the path to bring people even closer in relationship with Jesus this year. Wondering what the rest of 2014 will have in store for us 🙂
